Preparing for a Puppy
The excitement begins as you wait for your Cockapoo puppy. The best way to pass the time is to get your home ready. Puppy ownership is a big job. Not only does it require the usual veterinary and training requirements, but owning a Cockapoo means a considerable commitment to coat maintenance and grooming. To make things easier for you, we have created a step by step list to help you prepare. This list includes all of our favorite items to get you started as a new Cockapoo parent.
Step 1. Pick your veterinarian. I suggest you do your research and find the one that suits you and you trust. You might look into PetSmart they have locations across the U.S. The Puppy Wellness Plan is about $50 per month. It includes two comprehensive exams, Wisdom Panel genetic testing ( this is not my favorite genetic testing company I recommend Embark if you want a more thorough and accurate test) all necessary vaccinations, deworming, fecal exams and diagnostic testing, spay or neuter surgery, and unlimited office visits. This is not a guarantee that your PetSmart will offer all the above. You will need to speak to them yourself to find out what the offer in your area.
Step 2. Pick your groomer. Your dog will require regular grooming visits at a professional groomer every 6-8 weeks. Unfortunately, unless you fully, learn how to groom them at home this will still be necessary no matter how often you brush them. As a puppy, your Cockapoo will have a relatively easy coat. Do not be deceived; this coat will change before they turn one year old. Early socialization to the groomer is incredibly important. We recommend visits after your puppy is full vaccinated from Parvo. But you can work at home with your puppy getting them used to a hair dryer and nail clipping.
Step 3. Check out my https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/18LBYEZT440CM?ref_=wl_share for our favorite items, including their food. We highly suggest that you purchase each of these items before bringing your puppy home. We are happy to answer any questions that you might have regarding specific items on this
Step 4. Sign up for puppy classes. We suggest that you sign up for these as soon as you know your puppy’s take-home date as they fill up fast.
Step 5. Prepare to activate your Trupanion insurance. All our puppies go home with one month of pet insurance at no cost to you. Trupanion is not a preventative plan; instead, it is a plan to cover emergencies. Once you activate your Trupanion plan, you will have instant coverage for all new injuries and illnesses for 30 days. You must activate your Go Home Day Offer either 24 hours before or after bringing your puppy home. We will send you more information on how to start your coverage after you make your puppy pick.
Preparing for a new puppy can feel overwhelming, but I am here to make it easier for you in any way I can. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns that you might have!
